QuTech is an advanced research center for quantum computing and quantum internet, a collaboration founded by TU Delft and TNO. QuTech addresses scientific challenges as well as engineering issues in a joint center of know-how with industrial partners. QuTech is organized along Roadmaps. Much of the activities occur within roadmaps with general support organized centrally.


The Netherlands Organisation for applied scientific research TNO, was founded by law in 1932 to enable business and government to apply knowledge. As an organisation regulated by public law, TNO is independent: not part of any government, university or company.

TU Delft

Delft University of Technology is the largest and oldest Dutch public technical university, located in Delft, The Netherlands. It is repeatedly considered the best technical university in the Netherlands. With eight faculties and numerous research institutes, it hosts over 19,000 students, more than 2,900 scientists, and more than 2,100 support and management staff. Within TU Delft, the Faculty of Applied Sciences (AS) and the Faculty of Electrical Engineering, Mathematics and Computer Sciences (EEMCS) are both involved in QuTech.


SURF is the collaborative ICT organisation for Dutch education and research. SURF offers students, lecturers and scientists in the Netherlands access to the best possible internet and ICT facilities. SURFsara is one of the subsidiaries of SURF.

SURFsara’s mission is to support research in the Netherlands by developing and offering advanced and sustainable ICT infrastructure, services and expertise. SURFsara's services and infrastructure are necessary for top-level research and innovation. SURFsara support research in the Netherlands by:

  • providing an integrated ICT research infrastructure
  • providing services in the areas of computing, data storage, visualization, networking, cloud and e-Science
  • the provision of multidisciplinary expertise and support in ICT technology and applications
  • doing all required innovation, engineering and development

Quantum Delta NL

Quantum Delta NL consists of five major quantum hubs and several universities and research centres, which are all connected. The hubs are collaborating on innovation by bringing together top-quality scientists, engineers, students and entrepreneurs, working together on the frontier of quantum technology. Quantum Delta NL funds Quantum Inspire developments through the CAT-1 development programme, part of the National growth Fund Quantum technology . The CAT-1 programme is executed by TNO, TU Delft, TU Eindhoven, University of Amsterdam and aQa Leiden.

aQa Leiden

Applied quantum algorithms (aQa) Leiden is an interdepartmental initiative bringing together Leiden researchers from the physics, computer science, chemistry and mathematics with common interest in quantum algorithmics. The aQa team studies quantum algorithms and their applications to problems in natural sciences (physics, chemistry) and practical computing (machine learning, AI, optimization) and methods to make them compatible with near-term quantum devices. Our methods include both theory and empirical analyses of algorithms using currently available devices. The vision of the team is to make real-world quantum computing practical, and integrate theory, experiment, and applications.
